Data Visualization Software Engineer

Mountain Measurement, Inc. is seeking a talented engineer/designer to take TRANSOM’s data visualization & analytics components to the next level. TRANSOM™ is Mountain Measurement’s award winning business intelligence tool for the assessment industry.

The primary job responsibility of the Data Visualization Software Engineer/Designer is to lead the development of data visualizations and analytics within TRANSOM. This involves the following:

  • Collaborate in the design of data visualizations
  • Create D3 code needed to render new data visualizations
  • Convert pre-existing Tableau data visualizations to D3
  • Collaborate in the design of custom data analysis components
  • Create analytic code in Ruby, R, or other languages
  • Support with UI, database, and model development
  • Teach technical staff how to support the code

Mountain Measurement primarily serves professional associations responsible for the licensure & certification of new personnel and K-12 educational assessment organizations.

TRANSOM™: TRANSOM is Mountain Measurement’s award-winning business intelligence tool for the assessment industry. The tool has four main functions, to warehouse examination (aka test) results data, analyze the item-level test results data, provide reports to examinees, educators, regulators, and test development staff. The tool was introduced in 2009 and awarded the 2014 Product Demonstration Competition Winner at the European Association of Test Publishers conference.

Compensation: Mountain Measurement is open to a variety of working relationships from part-time consultant to full-time employee. Mountain Measurement has an attractive benefits package which includes paid holidays and vacation, health care, and 401k.

Job requirements include:

  • Strong JavaScript skills with understanding of the latest standards such as ECMA-5 and 6.
  • Experience with D3.js and a solid understanding SVG, Canvas, WebGL.
  • Experience with CSS, HTM5.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience in building and deploying enterprise class products.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience building products in Agile development methodology, using test driven development.
  • Experience with math and statistics.
  • Good sense for building visually appealing products is desirable.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases is desirable.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as Node.js, Backbone, Angular, Ember, or others is desirable.
  • Familiarity with R (for statistics) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with scala is desirable.
  • Proficiency with troubleshooting strategy.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete tasks on time.
  • Ability to solve problems independently.
  • High-speed internet access for home office setup.
  • A quiet area for home office setup.
